The International Audio Laboratories, known as AudioLabs, were officially founded in 2010 by a research alliance that contributed significant development to what they named 'mp3' in 1995. The members of this research alliance, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg) and Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (Fraunhofer IIS), are official supporters of IS2 2024. The city center of Erlangen is a vibrant 'college town', with public squares and cobblestone streets edged with parked bicycles, cafés, restaurants, shops, and quintessential Franconian bakeries. There you will find the heart of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, in the baroque Schloss Erlangen, built between 1700 and 1704. Established in 1743, the university now has campuses and facilities throughout Erlangen and in the Nuremberg metropolitan area, in a region known as 'Mittelfranken', or middle Franconia.
